This is a series that I created for the 2019 SCBWI Narrative Art Award. For this award, each illustrator was asked to create a series of three images based on the prompt "a groundbreaking journey." I chose to portray Ibtihaj Muhammad's journey to become the first Muslim American to compete and medal in the olympics in hijab. I wanted to show her physical journey as well as her psychological transformation from a bullied and isolated middle schooler to a confident role model for other young women facing adversity.
